King County Solid Waste Division Adds Latex Paint to the Take it Back Network!

Materials Accepted:

Starting today, residents and business can drop off unwanted latex paint, water-based stains and clear finishes for recycling at any Take it Back Network location. A recycling fee will be charged for this service.

Recycling Fees:

A fee will be charged to cover the cost of labor to package and transport the latex paint to the processing facility. Call the collection site you intend to use to determine the amount of the fee.

Call first:

Be sure to read the vendor descriptions and call first to verify that they will accept your latex paint.

Not Accepted:

Oil-based paint, solvents and other hazardous products are NOT accepted.

Residents in King County can contact the Local Hazardous Waste Management Program for information about how to dispose of oil based paints.

Businesses in King County can contact the Business Hazardous Waste information and the Small Business Hazardous Waste information sites for oil based paint disposal information.

Environmentally Sound Recycling:

The organizations listed in the local Take it Back Network have agreed to recycle the latex paint in an environmentally sound manner. To learn more about joining the Take it Back Network as a latex paint collection site, contact Peter Thermos at peter@greensheenpaint.com

Brochures:

Take it Back Network brochures will be available for distribution at the end of February. Contact Lisa.Sepanski@kingcounty.gov to order copies.

Collection Events:

GreenSheen Paint, the latex paint recycling company, offers paint collection events as fundraisers. They partner with community groups, schools and PTSAs, Boy Scouts and others to host a collection site where latex paint is dropped off in original containers, transported to GreenSheen Paint and recycled into fresh latex!
