New pavement coming for SR 410 between Buckley and Enumclaw

If you drive SR 410 between Enumclaw and Buckley, especially at night, plan for some minor delays. Starting Monday, May 22, we’re beginning a project to repair and repave the highway between the White River Bridge near Buckley and SR 164 in Enumclaw.

Most of the work will take place at night, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. with single lane closures. Our contractor crews will use pilot cars to guide traffic through the work zone at night, which will create some short delays.

In Enumclaw, we’ll have some daytime work to realign the intersection of SR 164 and Cole Street to improve visibility. We’ll also replace some curb ramps at the intersection of SR 164 and Garrett Street to improve pedestrian access. Work will wrap up in late summer.

Crash in SR 516 work zone: Please be careful!

We take work zone safety very seriously here at WSDOT, which is what makes this next story so distressing. On Tuesday night, we got a call from our traffic management center saying a car drove into our work zone on westbound SR 516 in Kent. Luckily, there were not any injuries and only some minor damage. But this is just yet another reminder of the dangers our workers face every day while on the job.

So please, if you find yourself commuting near one of our work zones – or any work zones for that matter – slow down and give them room to work. The workers want to get home safe as much as you do.

Cayuse Pass reopens tomorrow; Chinook Pass reopening delayed

SR 123 Cayuse Pass is on track to reopen to traffic at 8 a.m. tomorrow, May 19. Travelers headed eastbound can access Cayuse Pass via US 12 and SR 123, and those headed westbound can access the pass at the Crystal Mountain Boulevard gate on SR 410.

However, despite our best efforts, State Route 410 over Chinook Pass will not reopen in time for Memorial Day weekend as previously forecasted. Crews experienced a setback after receiving additional snowfall this week. This created unstable avalanche conditions, which resulted in several natural slides and forced crews to backtrack on their clearing efforts.
